The European Energy Exchange (EEX) published today the revised 2021 and 2022 EU ETS auction calendars.
The published calendars reflect the operation of the Market Stability Reserve (MSR) until 31 August 2022. Following the publication by the Commission on 12 May 2021 of the total number of allowances in circulation in 2020, auction volumes from 1 September 2021 until 31 August 2022 are reduced by 378 905 382 allowances, which are placed in the MSR.
The first auctions with the revised volumes in 2021 will start on 1 September 2021 with the auction for Poland, followed on 3 September 2021 with the auction for Germany and on 6 September 2021 the auction on the common auction platform.
The first auction in 2022 will be held on 10 January 2022 with an auction on the common auction platform. The first 2022 auction by Germany will take place on 14 January 2022, while the first auction by Poland is scheduled for 19 January 2022.
The auction calendars consist of the volumes for all Member States, the Innovation Fund and the Modernisation Fund.
The 2021 and 2022 auction volumes are calculated in accordance with the previously published:
