All over the world this Saturday 26 March, individuals and organisations will switch off the lights for an hour from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. local time in an energy-saving gesture called Earth Hour: an event organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in which the Commission will participate.

Symbolic gestures aside, we can all contribute on a daily basis to reducing environmental impacts through individual actions. The Commission itself is also committed via the implementation of the environmental management scheme EMAS in the European Commission and Parliament for several years already. This is how we work towards the European Union commitments to the 20% goals on energy saving by the year 2020.

Join us in switching off lights and shutting down the computer when leaving your office today and any other day, and have a good Earth Hour on Saturday!
