Climate Diplomacy Weeks 2022

news_20220919

From 12 September to 30 October, EU Delegations and embassies of EU Member States around the world will host events to foster dialogue and cooperation on climate change, showcase success stories and inspire further action.

Events will include conferences, citizens’ debates and other outreach activities, bringing together communities and a wide range of stakeholders.

The theme of this year’s Climate Diplomacy Weeks is energy.

The current geopolitical situation and its consequences on energy, with soaring prices of fossil fuels, makes  the acceleration of the clean energy transition worldwide more urgent than ever.  In the short term, saving energy is the cheapest and quickest way to address the ongoing energy crisis. In the medium and long term, scaling up investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency is the best solution to improve energy security, while boosting the green transition and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

This is the approach adopted by the EU, with REPowerEU, Europe’s plan to fast forward the green transition, save energy, diversify our energy supplies, and massively invest in renewables and energy efficiency.

We would like to join forces with partners worldwide and promote such an approach internationally, with support from our Delegations and embassies.

With the European Green Deal, the Climate Law and the latest set of policy and legislative proposals (Fit for 55) to achieve at least 55% emissions reduction by 2030 as an intermediate step, the EU will become the climate neutral by 2050. The EU is also actively working with other countries and regions to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and promote ambitious climate action.
