The European Energy Exchange (EEX) today published the 2019 calendars for the auctions of general and aviation allowances in Poland, in its capacity as auction platform for the country.
The first auction for Poland in 2019 will take place on 16 January.
The volume of general allowances for Poland is based on Article 10(1) of the EU ETS Directive. It includes 55.8 million allowances from the free allocation under Article 10c that were not allocated in the period 2013-2017.
The volume of general allowances also reflects the operation of the Market Stability Reserve (MSR) from 1 January 2019. The total volume to be auctioned in the period 1 January to 31 August 2019 is reduced by 264 731 936 allowances, which are to be placed in the MSR. This includes the contribution by Poland. The volumes to be auctioned in the period 1 September to 31 December 2019 will be revised following the publication by the Commission of the total number of allowances in circulation in 2018, by 15 May 2019.
The auction volumes of aviation allowances are determined on the basis of Article 28a(3) of the EU ETS Directive.
Following the practice of the previous years, in 2019 Poland will have 24 auctions for general allowances on Wednesdays, in the morning, and one auction for aviation allowances, also on Wednesdays in the afternoon.
