2019 auction calendars of the common auction platform published

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) published today its 2019 calendars for the auctions of general and aviation allowances in its capacity as common auction platform.

Calendar

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) published today its 2019 calendars for the auctions of general and aviation allowances in its capacity as common auction platform.

The 2019 auctions of EEX as common auction platform for 25 Member States will start on 7 January 2019.

The volumes of general allowances are based on Articles 10(1) of the ETS Directive taking into account the volumes withheld from auctioning pursuant to Articles 10c and 27 of that Directive, as confirmed by the Member States concerned. For the first time, auction volumes reflect the operation of the Market Stability Reserve (MSR) as from 1 January 2019. As a result, the volumes to be auctioned during the period from 1 January to 31 August 2019 are reduced by 264 731 936 allowances, which are placed in the MSR. The volumes to be auctioned in the period from 1 September until 31 December 2019 will be revised following the publication by the Commission of the total number of allowances in circulation in 2018 by 15 May 2019.

The auction volumes of aviation allowances are determined on the basis of Article 28a(3) of the ETS Directive.

The volumes of 41,982,348 general allowances and 1,555,693 aviation allowances of the EEA-EFTA States for the years 2013 to 2018 are withheld from auctioning. The auctions for the EEA-EFTA States are expected to start in the course of the second quarter of 2019 at the latest. Further details will be communicated via this website and EEX once available.

Following the practice of the previous years, in 2019 the common auction platform will auction general allowances on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning. The respective 2019 aviation calendar includes six auctions all scheduled on Wednesdays in the afternoon.

EEX will follow soon with the publication of the 2019 auction calendars for Poland. The auction calendars for Germany will be published in the beginning of 2019 following the entry into force of the amendment to the Auctioning Regulation to re-list EEX as the opt-out auction platform for Germany.
