The European Energy Exchange (EEX) today published its 2018 calendars for the auctions of general allowances.
General allowances
The total quantity of general allowances included in the auction calendars for 2018 amounts to 836,504,000.[1] This does not include allowances to be auctioned by the EEA-EFTA States.
Volume | Auction platform | States | Details |
---|---|---|---|
564,447,000 | EEX | 25 Member States | Weekly auctions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays |
194,027,000 | EEX | Germany | Weekly auctions on Fridays |
78,030,000 | EEX | Poland | Fortnightly auctions on Wednesdays |
All auctions will take place in the mornings.
The volumes are based on the estimated amount of general allowances to be auctioned, taking into account general allowances withheld from auctioning pursuant to Article 10c of the ETS Directive but not allocated in previous years and the deductions pursuant to Article 27 of the ETS Directive, as confirmed by the Member States concerned.
For the auctioning of general allowances by the UK, the auction calendar will be published following the amendment of the Registry Regulation currently under discussion.
In addition, 41,982,348 general allowances of the EEA-EFTA States for the years 2013 to 2018 are withheld from auctioning. The modalities for auctioning these allowances are still under discussion.
Aviation allowances
The 2018 auction calendars for aviation allowances will be determined and published at a later stage, once the revision of the EU ETS for aviation politically agreed by Council and Parliament has entered in force.
Coordination
The European Commission has closely coordinated the determination of the auction calendars with Member States and the auction platforms.
