The European Climate Pact aims to engage citizens and communities in action for our climate and environment. The first #EUClimatePact webinar held on 15 June 2020 gave interested organisations and networks an opportunity to learn about the Pact, ask questions and share information and ideas.

Description
Around 130 participants representing grassroots initiatives, private companies, non-governmental organisations and public institutions joined the webinar for an early-stage discussion on how to shape the European Climate Pact.
Participants heard an introductory presentation on the Pact by Elena Višnar Malinovska, Head of the Adaptation Unit in DG CLIMA. You can watch a recording of the presentation and short Q&A session.
The debates continued in interactive breakout rooms, in which participants exchanged views on what the Pact could be for them. Participants highlighted that the Pact could be for example a bridge between initiatives, an aggregator, resource and platform for collaboration, networking and support of grassroots initiatives, especially by youth, an enabler for action by groups and individuals, a source of knowledge on climate change and climate action, and a coordinator highlighting interconnections between sectors and initiatives.
The second session of breakout discussions focused on how the Pact can help participants work together on climate action initiatives. The discussions allowed exploring similarities and complementarities, and highlighted great potential for collaboration, and participants suggested multiple ways of how the Climate Pact can support this process.
During the Q&A session, many participants expressed interest in:
- becoming an European Climate Pact Ambassador,
- getting in touch with national, regional or local governments to encourage climate-friendly strategies,
- promoting their climate initiatives through the Pact,
- persuading their employer/organisation to commit to a climate pledge,
- committing to an individual climate pledge.
We thank all participants for their ideas, energy and enthusiasm for the Pact. Inputs from the webinar, together with the results of the open public consultation, will be used in the further preparations of the European Climate Pact ahead of its launch in the 4th quarter of 2020.
