Policy field(s) |
Climate Action |
Target group(s) |
Stakeholders and experts in the field of agriculture and forestry |
Period of consultation |
From 26 March 2015 to 18 June 2015 |
Objective of the consultation |
The European Commission is launching the consultation on the integration of agriculture, forestry and other land use into the 2030 EU climate and energy policy framework. It seeks input on evaluation of current policies and the policy options to be assessed following the European Council's endorsement of the climate and energy framework in October 2014. This consultation is launched in parallel with the "Consultation on the preparation of a legislative proposal on the effort of Member States to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to meet the European Union's greenhouse gas emission reduction commitment in a 2030 perspective". In October 2014, EU leaders agreed upon a greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of at least 40% by 2030 compared to 1990 together with other building blocks of the 2030 policy framework for climate and energy, as proposed by the European Commission in January 2014. The European Commission was invited to establish policy on how to include land use, land use change and forestry into the 2030 greenhouse gas mitigation framework. This presents an opportunity to reflect on how best to deal with the emissions from agriculture, forestry and other land use. |
