Last year’s emissions under the EU’s Emission Trading System (ETS) show the most significant annual emissions reductions since the ETS was launched in 2005. The main driver is the power sector’s significant progress in decarbonisation.

Today, the Commission published its first report on the real-world CO2 emissions of new passenger cars and vans. The report is based on data collected in 2021 from fuel consumption monitors installed on-board of these vehicles.

The final monitoring data published by the European Environment Agency today shows the average CO₂ emissions of new cars registered in Europe fell further in 2022 to a new low of 27% below 2019 levels.
