World Energy Outlook 2014

Commissioner Arias Cañete said: "the lessons for the EU from the IEA's 2014 World Energy Outlook are clear: in an increasingly unstable world, the best route to improved energy security is a low carbon and energy efficient one. It also sends a clear message to the world that current trends could lead to global temperature increases of 3.6 °C, and increased energy security concerns. This underlines once again the importance of agreeing a binding deal on climate change in 2015, which the EU has laid the foundations for by agreeing the 2030 Framework."

Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič: "Looking at global energy developments up to 2040, the World Energy Outlook 2014 is a strong reminder that sustained political efforts are essential if we want to change energy trends for the better. In the midst of geopolitical uncertainty, and with energy security concerns on the rise, the European Union needs - more than ever - a common energy diplomacy, innovative energy efficiency measures and a well-integrated internal energy market. In other words: global developments remind us once again why we need an ambitious European Energy Union."
