A total of 410.30 million international credits were exchanged between March 2014, when the exchange function became operational, and 30 April 2016. This is an increase of 22.66 million credits compared to the aggregated number published in May 2015.
Since 31 March 2015, only credits issued in respect of emissions reductions generated during the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (so-called "CP2-credits") can be exchanged in the EU ETS.
A total of 24.8 million CP2 credits have been exchanged since March 2014. These were Certified Emission Reductions (CERs). More information on the number and type of CP2 credits exchanged by 30 April 2016, by country of origin, project and commitment period, is available in the annex.
