The European Commission hereby announces the following information concerning the aggregate number of international credits that were exchanged for allowances by EU ETS operators by 30 April 2015:

The total number of international credits exchanged since the exchange function became operational in March 2014 amounts to 386.67 million. This is an increase of 229.31 million credits compared to the figures published in November 2014.

Of these, 195.62 million were Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) and 191.05 million were Emission Reduction Units (ERUs). The CERs and ERUs exchanged were issued from projects taking place in a limited number of countries, with 76.79% of CERs originating from China and 6.45% from India for instance. 76.77% of ERUs exchanged were issued from projects implemented in Ukraine and 16.78% from Russian projects.

Since 31 March 2015, and in accordance with Article 60 of the Registry Regulation (Regulation No 389/2013), credits issued in respect of emission reductions occurring during the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (so-called "CP1 credits") can no longer be exchanged in the EU ETS. The total number of "CP1 credits" exchanged by 31 March 2015 was 384.29 million.

See Annex for full details. More information on the number and type of credits exchanged by 30 April 2015, by country of origin, project and commitment period, is available.
