UN climate talks resume in Bonn

United Nations negotiations on a new global climate change agreement will continue from 31 August to 4 September 2015 in Bonn, Germany.

In the run-up to the Paris conference this December, countries will be looking to clarify and narrow down the options on issues contained in the draft negotiating text produced in Geneva last February.

Discussions will take into account a new document produced by the co-chairs of the negotiations to help give focus and structure to further work on the long and complex draft negotiation text. The co-chairs' tool begins to separate provisions suitable for the agreement (to be implemented from 2020, and be durable in nature) from those for accompanying decisions (which can be implemented immediately, and could be subject to more frequent adjustments).

The EU is committed to adopting at the UN climate conference in Paris this December a fair and ambitious global climate agreement that will accelerate the shift to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy worldwide.

For the EU, the key elements of the agreement include ambitious mitigation commitments, a long-term goal, robust transparency and accountability rules, and a dynamic review mechanism to strengthen ambition over time. The agreement must also address adaptation to climate change impacts and help mobilise financing for climate action at the required transformational scale.
