Today, the European Energy Exchange (EEX) updated the 2022 auction calendar for general allowances.
The revised calendar reflects the addition for Bulgaria of 5,160,000 general allowances to the volume to be auctioned by the common auction platform in 2022.
Those additional allowances were initially set aside for free allocation for electricity generation under Article 10c of the EU ETS Directive. Following a request by Bulgaria to auction those allowances in 2022, based on Article 14f of the Auctioning Regulation, the auctioning calendar has been adjusted accordingly.
The volume of those additional allowances has been spread over the remaining 2022 auctions under the common auction platform, starting from 21 March 2022.
The 2022 auction volumes are calculated in accordance with the previously published:
- Communication of the Commission on the total number of allowances in circulation in 2020 for the purposes of the Market Stability Reserve.
- Member States auction shares for phase 4 of the EU ETS.
- Commission Decision on the Union-wide quantity of allowances to be issued under the EU Emissions Trading System for 2021 (C(2020)7704)
