The United Kingdom (UK) auction platform Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) today published the revised calendar for the auctions of aviation allowances that will take place in the remainder of 2020 for the UK.
The only auction of aviation allowances previously scheduled for 2020 for the UK was cancelled on 25.03.2020, due to the volume of aviation allowances bid for being insufficient. The Auctioning Regulation stipulates that the allowance volume of a cancelled aviation auction shall be distributed evenly over the two subsequent auctions held on the auction platform. As the cancelled auction of 25 March 2020 was the only auction of aviation allowances scheduled for 2020 for the UK, it was necessary to revise the 2020 aviation auction calendar for the UK to provide for two further auctions.
The volumes of aviation allowance auctions are determined according to Article 28a(3) of the ETS Directive. The two auctions published in the revised auction calendar will auction aviation allowances for the UK for the calendar years 2019 and 2020, totalling 1,669,000 aviation allowances. This corresponds to a volume of 834,500 in each of the two auctions.
Revised 2020 auction dates | Volume |
---|---|
03.06.2020 | 834,500 aviation allowances |
23.09.2020 | 834,500 |
The European Commission has determined the revised aviation auction calendar in close coordination with the UK and the auction platform.
