"The Tianjin meeting has brought a welcome convergence of views that the United Nations climate conference in Cancún next month must result in a balanced package of decisions that takes forward global action to combat climate change", stated Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action. The Commissioner was in Tianjin, China from 4 to 9 October within the framework of international negotiations on reaching an agreement for the post-Kyoto period.
"Some advances have been made towards drafting decisions for Cancún that address a number of issues of priority concern to developing countries, such as climate finance, technology cooperation, reducing tropical deforestation and adaptation to climate change", according to Commissioner Hedegaard.
