The EU and its Member States are a global leader in international climate finance. EU side events at the Paris climate conference highlight new developments in the international climate finance landscape and discuss the road ahead.

The finance day at the Paris climate conference on 4 December puts the spotlight on the role of international climate finance in supporting the global transition to low-emission, climate-resilient economies.

The EU and its Member States are the biggest contributors of climate finance to developing countries, providing EUR 14.5 billion in 2014, and remain committed to contributing their fair share to the international commitment of USD 100 billion in climate finance annually by 2020.

At the EU finance flagship event at COP21 on 4 December at 12:30-14:00, high-level representatives from the EU and major international partners will share insight into new developments in the international climate finance landscape and engage with the audience on the steps to take post-Paris. Speakers include Economic and Financial Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici and Vice-President of the European Investment Bank Jonathan Taylor as well as high-level speakers from the African Development Bank and the Green Climate Fund.

Following the flagship event, the 'EU Blending 2.0' event will bring together experts from the European Commission, major European financial institutions and partner countries to look at the role of innovative blending facilities in further mobilising public and private climate finance.

On the occasion of the Paris conference, the EU and its Member States also released a joint brochure on EU climate funding to developing countries, providing an overview of contributions and examples of funded projects, with a particular focus on adaptation to climate change.
