Brazil is the latest country to join the coalition of countries seeking a highly ambitious global deal at the UN climate talks in Paris.

The EU and other partners in the growing coalition, which numbers more than 100 countries, both developing and developed, today expressed their commitment to stand firm for an ambitious agreement in the final hours of the negotiations.

Welcoming the announcement, EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete said: "This is a game changer. Such a relevant emerging economy joining us is clear proof that the coalition is delivering. We will not accept a minimalist, lowest common denominator, wait-until-next-year agreement. Our moment is now. All countries need to come together to fulfil the promise and the purpose of this historic meeting."
