The European Commission plans to organise three stakeholder meetings to consult on possible carbon leakage provisions under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) after 2020.

The first of the meetings will take place on 13 June not as originally announced on 16 June 2014, with the further meetings tentatively scheduled for 10 July and 25 September. The agenda of the first meeting will be made public in due course. An on-line questionnaire is also in preparation.

The results of the consultations will provide input to the European Council's October 22-23 discussions on the 2030 climate and energy framework.

The consultations will be an opportunity for stakeholders to take stock of experience to date and to propose and comment on the merits and drawbacks of different options to address the risk of carbon leakage and ensure competitiveness. One further element for discussion will be how to support low-carbon innovation and large-scale demonstration projects.

Due to the limited space available, only key stakeholders will be invited to the meetings, but the meetings will be web-streamed to ensure full transparency. Information on the consultation meetings, including how to connect to the web streaming, will be published on the Events page.

The consultations are organised by the Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry.
