The European Commission has requested Austria, Cyprus, Hungary, Ireland, Sweden and Slovenia to adopt the necessary measures to fully transpose the EU Directive on the geological storage of CO2 into their national law.
These Member States have not notified their complete transposing measures. The Commission is therefore asking them, in a Reasoned Opinion (the second stage in EU infringement proceedings), to comply with EU law.
At the same time, the Commission has closed infringement procedures against 10 other Member States as they have now communicated their measures transposing the CCS Directive. The Member States concerned are Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Finland, Luxembourg, Latvia and the United Kingdom.
