The European Energy Exchange (EEX) and ICE Futures Europe (ICE) published today the revised 2020 aviation auction calendars to take into account the change in scope of EU ETS for aviation after the linking with the Swiss ETS.
The Agreement between the European Union and the Swiss Confederation on the linking of their greenhouse gas emissions trading systems entered into force on 1 January 2020. With regards to aviation activities, the Agreement changes the scope of the EU ETS for aviation and leads to modifications of free allocation to aviation operators participating in the EU ETS. Since the aviation auction volumes depend on the allowances issued for free to the aviation operators, the 2020 aviation auction volumes are now changed accordingly. This revision concerns the aviation auction calendars of the common auction platform, as well as of the opt-out auction platforms nominated by Germany and the United Kingdom.
