Description
The EU is looking to the Panama meeting to prepare a negotiating text for Durban. In particular, the EU wants the Durban conference to agree on a roadmap for reaching a comprehensive and legally binding global framework for climate action with broad international participation, and to resolve ongoing negotiations on the future of the Kyoto Protocol.
Durban should also take the necessary decisions to bring last year's Cancún agreements into operation while also addressing key issues left aside in Cancún, such as the creation of new carbon market mechanisms and action to address emissions from international aviation and shipping.
The EU delegation held a press briefing on Saturday 1 October and will hold another one on Friday 7 October at 13.45 local time (20:45 Brussels time) -both streamed live and on-demand.
