COP30

Highlights:

• The EU's climate vision: The EU is ‘staying the course’ on its climate goals, as stressed by European Commission President von der Leyen. We are on track to meet our 2030 targets, and we will make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, as set out in the legally-binding European Climate Law. These objectives are aligned with the Paris Agreement
• Climate action plans: Parties will present new or updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). These are crucial climate plans that outline national efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change, keeping in line with the obligations of the Paris Agreement. The new EU NDC, which has been submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is to reduce net GHG emissions by 66.25 –72.5 % below 1990 levels by 2035, covering all sectors of the economy and all GHGs. This is an ambitious milestone on the path to a 90% net reduction by 2040 compared to 1990 levels, leading the way towards EU climate neutrality by 2050.
• Global partnerships: The EU remains a leader in international climate action. We are actively cooperating with global partners, sharing lessons learned and supporting them in the fight against climate change. The EU is also, by far, the largest contributor to international climate finance, having provided €31.7 billion in 2024.
