I) Latest developments

18 Jun 2014

The first call under the new LIFE sub-programme for Climate Action is now open.

26 Feb 2011

The fifth LIFE+ call for proposals is published.

II) General context

LIFE+ is the European financial instrument for the environment. Climate change is one of its key priorities. The LIFE+ funding is intended to finance and co-finance projects that contribute to EU's efforts to address the climate challenge. Accordingly financing can be made available for best practice pilot projects in areas such as climate adaptation techniques, climate smart urban environment and local construction, as well as energy efficiency initiatives.

In addition co-financing can be made available to (i) the implementation of Community climate policy, (ii) the development of innovative policy approaches, technologies, methods and instruments, (ii) the increasing of knowledge base as regards climate policy and legislation, and (iv) the monitoring of climatic pressures within the EU.

One call is launched per year. Eligible organisations from all the 27 Member states are encouraged to submit proposals so that they can benefit from the funding available to support these types of climate actions. The funding is intended to contribute to the achievement of EU climate policy objectives.
