Fifty-four projects selected under the IF24 Call signed their grant agreements, receiving a total of €2.7 billion in financing sourced from EU Emission Trading System revenues. An additional six projects from the IF24 Call reserve list have been invited to start their grant agreement preparation.

The Commission selected 61 projects to receive €2.9 billion in grants located in 18 European countries, including Norway. The selected projects span 19 industrial sectors and will collectively cut 221 million tonnes of CO2 in their first 10 years of operation.

Call design
With a budget of €2.4 billion raised from the auctioning of EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) allowances, the IF24 Call covered 5 topics:
- General decarbonisation (large-scale) - €1.2 billion available for projects with CAPEX (capital expenditure) above €100 million
- General decarbonisation (medium-scale) - €200 million available for projects with CAPEX between €20 million and €100 million
- General decarbonisation (small-scale) - €100 million available for projects with CAPEX between €2.5 million and €20 million
- Cleantech manufacturing - €700 million available for projects with CAPEX above €2.5 million and focusing on component manufacturing for renewable energy, energy storage, heat pumps and hydrogen production
- Pilot - €200 million available for projects with CAPEX above €2.5 million and focusing on deep decarbonisation (technologies that can reduce relative GHG emissions by at least 75% compared to the reference scenario).
